About Aikikai
The Aikikai Foundation is the governing body for the Japanese martial art of Aikido as recognized by the Japanese government.
What is Aikikai?
The Aikikai Foundation (公益財団法人 合気会, Kōeki Zaidanhōjin Aikikai), officially known as the Foundation for the Dissemination of Aikido, is the original and largest organization for the Japanese martial art of Aikido. It was established in 1948 by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, and his son Kisshomaru Ueshiba.
The Aikikai Foundation is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a public interest incorporated foundation. It operates the Aikido Hombu Dojo (World Headquarters) in Tokyo and the Ibaraki Branch Dojo in Iwama.
